AP gave POAAL representatives a preview of the new EPOS screens and PIN pads that will soon be delivered to LPOs and corporate post offices. The new screens are a significant improvement on the existing EPOS screens. The new screens are 15" LCD flat screens. They have a larger viewable area, the screens can be tilted to different angles and there will be reduced glare, which should improve working conditions at the counter. The reduced footprint should also be well-received by Licensees. The new PIN pads will also be a welcome step forward in technology. AP advised that the new models will be more reliable than the existing PIN pads. We hope that there will be a significant improvement in first-time scans for cards! AP is confident that the new technology, combined with recent communications upgrades, will lead to faster card processing times. The PIN pads are very similar to the familiar models used in major supermarket chains, and this should improve the useability of the PIN pads for customers.AP advised that the new screens and PIN pads will be delivered to LPOs over the coming months. Licensees are asked to store the equipment pending installation by AP technicians. Installations should take place in January 2006.AP also noted that the old PIN pads will be disposed of with zero landfill, which is good news for the environment.
