The US Postal Service recently announced that its total mail volume for July 2005 was 227 million articles. This is 1.4% lower than July 2004. Overall this year, mail volumes in the USA have increased by 2.6%.This corresponds with a study by US firm Pitney Bowes ("Electronic Substitution for Mail: Models and Results; Myth and Reality") that found that while volumes for different categories of mail are fluctuating, mail volumes in the USA are generally flat.
