As part of Green Postal Day, Australia Post and other national postal operators are highlighting their efforts to reduce emissions.
Green Postal Day is an initiative from the International Post Corporation (IPC). The IPC is a cooperative association of 26 member postal operators, including Australia Post.
According to the IPC, 32% of the postal fleet is now composed of alternative-fuel vehicles, of which 26% are electric. About 36% of the electricity used in postal facilities is sourced from renewable energy.
Australia Post is a leader in electric delivery fleets. It has deployed over 5,000 electric delivery vehicles already. In August, Australia Post announced it is trialling 36 Mercedes-Benz eVito vans. The eVito vans (pictured above) will operate in metro areas and will be powered by 100% renewable electricity.
