Australia Post has announced a small profit for the 2025/2026 financial year.
The sale of Australia Post-owned properties for $139.4m tipped Australia Post into the black. Without these sales, Australia Post would have returned a loss before tax of $107.6m.
Australia Post’s letters service recorded a loss of $63.2 million, partially offset by the 20c basic postage rate (BPR) increase that came into effect on 17 July 2025. Letter volumes declined by 14.7%.
Parcel volumes grew by 5.3%.
Australia Post reported that its parcel locker network grew to 1510 locations by the end of the financial year.
While the growth in parcel volumes - against the backdrop of a very competitive delivery sector - is welcome news, the continuing losses in the letters business are a concern. In its media release accompanying the financial results, Australia Post noted that "further price increases and efficiencies will be required to ensure essential services can be provided sustainably, particularly for regional, remote and vulnerable communities."
